Short Biography
I started learning piano from the age of 7 under well-known Midlands teacher Joyce Mildren, reaching Grade 8 with honours by the age of 16. I won several awards in local competitive music festivals, becoming particularly well-known for my interpretations of the piano works of Debussy.
Following a full education at Queen Mary's Grammar School, Walsall, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree with Honours from the University of Birmingham in 1979, specialising in piano & composition. During this time I studied with the late Hungarian pianist Joseph Weingarten and concert pianist Frank Wibaut. I was tutored in composition by John Joubert.
I then worked for many years for charities, using music to communicate to disadvantaged young people. Alongside this, I worked as a professional musician in the popular music scene, touring the UK, Europe, the Middle East and North America. I also taught in several primary & secondary schools across the West Midlands for 11 years.
I have made 4 albums of my own songs and performed as
keyboard player/ pianist on many others. Several of my songs have been performed on
BBC National Radio
& TV as well as in several countries from the USA to Australia. I have also
been an editor for
songbooks.
In teaching you to play piano, I can even compose pieces
uniquely for you to help you develop your technique and learn to play in
whatever style you choose.
